Version 4

Lewis CROSS-CHEQUE .

This was introduced in March 1992. If you are using version 3 or version 2 of CROSS-CHEQUE, you should update and get these new features, plus those in Version 5 .

Data Entry

Number of components per transaction has been increased from 9 to 99.

Whenever CROSS-CHEQUE asks for bank account number, all the choices are displayed.

Much easier to enter transactions with value zero, such as cancelled cheques.

Duplication of transactions. Even duplicates the dissection by components.

Categories

Category abbreviation length can be set by user, in the range from 3 to 10 characters.

Limit to the number of categories, extended from 120 to about 1000.

When using the wildcard to display available categories, you can select a category with a single key-stroke.

Payee Abbreviations

No limit to the number of payee abbreviations, previously 36.

The length of the abbreviation can be set between 1 and 10.

Can associate a category with each payee. When you enter a payee abbreviation, CROSS-CHEQUE also recalls this category.

Payee abbreviations can also be used for descriptions of components.

Bank Reconciliation

Full screen Edit of Transactions. The fast numbering process has been improved. Instead of each transaction appearing on a separate screen, each transaction is displayed on one line, so there are 17 transactions per screen.

You can ‘tick’ any item that appears on the statement. Another key lets you ‘un-tick’ or reverse the ticking. You can tick or untick all (or many) items.

You can search by cheque number.

The screen shows a running count of the total of credits and debits of the items you have ticked.

The fast numbering excludes all transactions after the statement date.

All details of the bank reconciliation report can be displayed or printed. It can even be spooled to disk for later printing.

You can find cash book balances of all bank accounts simultaneously.

Reports

Reports Comparing with Another CROSS-CHEQUE file. Most commonly used to compare with the previous year. You can specify over the same time period, such as July 1 to September 30 for both years.

Index Page. For the reports which have many different sub-sections, there can now be an index on the last page, showing the page number where each section starts. This applies to total reports, and to detailed reports over all bank accounts.

Consolidation. For summary and detailed reports, you can do a consolidated report, which shows the total overall bank accounts, without listing each bank account individually.

A report that can compare actual with budget.

In detailed report, the name of the category is now printed prior to the detailed list of each cheque for that category.

List of Transactions without Summary can be sorted in order of date, cheque number, payee name or amount. Can also be unsorted.

Search

Can search by component description.

Print-out now shows components, and total.

Can restrict search to a particular bank account.

Profit & Loss Report

In CROSS-CHEQUE, we call this the Super-CROSS-CHEQUE report. Activated as a system option, so people who do not require it can ignore it.

This report shows the results of your trading for a given period. It lets you consolidate payment, receipt and journal transactions. It allows you to exclude various categories such as capital expenditure and non-income receipts.

Journal Transactions. For example, depreciation, adjustments for last year’s creditors and debtors, etc.

Sign-on

You can display the various CROSS-CHEQUE files on your disk.

Enter date at sign-on.

Miscellaneous

CROSS-CHEQUE data can be transferred to Solution 6 and to Ceedata systems used by many accountants.

Regular Transactions can be entered. E.g., one screen will enter a monthly direct debit as 12 transactions.

Back-up can be done as a menu option from CROSS-CHEQUE.

New Year. Lets you overwrite an existing blank file.

Can transfer a group of transactions between transaction types (expenditure, income or journals), or between bank accounts. Useful if you inadvertently entered a series of transactions with the wrong type or account.

Data for CROSS-CHEQUE can now be imported from a file from another application.
